State Sen. Andrew Dinniman has introduced a bill to make it illegal for a county elections board to be comprised of members who are all from the same political party — as is currently the case in Chester County.

“I was surprised to learn the current 2014 appointees to Chester County’s Board of Elections were all from one party,” Dinniman, D-19th of West Whiteland , said in a press release issued Monday afternoon. Read more. Story via @PottstownNews
Philadelphia >> A 44-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to an array of federal charges in connection to a multimillion-dollar fraud and the hundreds of improvised explosive devices that were found in a Malvern storage locker in February of 2013.

Istvan Merchenthaler, who has previously known addresses in Downingtown, West Chester and Coatesville, pleaded guilty to all counts in four separate indictments. The charges stemmed from the investigation of a phone card “ponzi scheme” that officials say defrauded investors of over $2 million and led to the stockpiling of homemade pipe bombs and firearms in three states. Read more. Story by @MikePriceWrites

Last week an anonymous email sent to the Devon Horse Show community and the Main Line Suburban News stated that the Devon Horse Show owes Richard Hayne, the CEO of Urban Outfitters, $1 million which is due in April 2015 -- just a month before the annual Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.

Hayne gave the Devon Horse Show a 10-year, interest-free loan as part of a capital campaign that the DHS had to purchase the horse show grounds from the Bryn Mawr Hospital. In a telephone interview, Hayne said the loan was from his own pocket, not the corporation, and was given out friendship for former DHS leaders Leonard King and Wade McDevitt. Read more. Story by @LSteinReporter
An off-balance Colin Kaepernick improvised, threw across his body and across the field, finding Frank Gore open near the opposite sideline more than 20 yards away.
Gore bailed out a broken play and helped get the San Francisco 49ers back on track with a big day.
He caught that career-best 55-yard touchdown and ran for 119 yards in his first 100-yard game of 2014, as San Francisco handed the Eagles their first loss, 26-21, Sunday. Read more.

Now that redevelopment of Ardmore’s Cricket Lot is a “go project” and no longer a guessing game, neighboring businesses are asking Lower Merion Township for help during construction.

Nearly two dozen owners of businesses surrounding the parking lot on Cricket Avenue came to a board of commissioners meeting Sept. 17, calling on township officials to step up planning for what could be an 18- to 24-month construction period. Read more.
Havertown native Brett Carty had just finished writing the premise of his first children's book in 2003 when his father passed away.

Carty, an Episcopal Academy Class of 2000 grad, attended Wesleyan University, located in Middletown, Conn., and later received his masters in Geographic Information Systems. However, between pre-season football practices, Carty was working on what was at the time only a hobby, writing and cartooning.

The story Carty had finished that year, which would later be titled "As Long as the Sky is Blue," tells the story of a father-son bond.

"I wanted to try and accurately capture the relationship between a father and son in a mindful, thoughtful and simple way," Carty said.

Carty has created a Kickstarter campaign Monday to crowdfund printing and distribution of the book. On Thursday, the project had gathered 23 backers and $933 with 27 days to go.
You did it again Main Liners! You filled Andrew Howell's truck with clothing donations.
Andrew Howell is the father of Lower Merion Boy Scout Alim Howell who is collecting clothing donations this year for his Eagle Scout service project.
This week's donations are going to The Salvation Army in Norristown and Wilmington, Del.
So what's next? Haiti.
As Howell continues to collect donations up to New Years Eve, he plans to send the next shipment of donations to those in need in The Republic of Haiti. Now Howell is just trying to find the best way to ship the clothes to Haiti. Any suggestions?
