Havertown native launches Kickstarter campaign for 'As Long as the Sky is Blue' children's book

Havertown native Brett Carty had just finished writing the premise of his first children's book in 2003 when his father passed away.

Carty, an Episcopal Academy Class of 2000 grad, attended Wesleyan University, located in Middletown, Conn., and later received his masters in Geographic Information Systems. However, between pre-season football practices, Carty was working on what was at the time only a hobby, writing and cartooning.

The story Carty had finished that year, which would later be titled "As Long as the Sky is Blue," tells the story of a father-son bond.

"I wanted to try and accurately capture the relationship between a father and son in a mindful, thoughtful and simple way," Carty said.

Carty has created a Kickstarter campaign Monday to crowdfund printing and distribution of the book. On Thursday, the project had gathered 23 backers and $933 with 27 days to go.
