Big Give: Main Liners fill truck with clothing donations again!

You did it again Main Liners! You filled Andrew Howell's truck with clothing donations.
Andrew Howell is the father of Lower Merion Boy Scout Alim Howell who is collecting clothing donations this year for his Eagle Scout service project.
This week's donations are going to The Salvation Army in Norristown and Wilmington, Del.
So what's next? Haiti.
As Howell continues to collect donations up to New Years Eve, he plans to send the next shipment of donations to those in need in The Republic of Haiti. Now Howell is just trying to find the best way to ship the clothes to Haiti. Any suggestions?

Bryn Mawr College faculty opens research to public

The repository of work created by Bryn Mawr College faculty is now open for access.

Standing by the colleges commitment to share its legacy of scholarship and research, the faculty of Bryn Mawr College approved an open access policy Dec. 11 that will allow their scholarly articles to be made available to the public for free.

Under the new policy, “faculty members grant to Bryn Mawr the nonexclusive right to disseminate their articles through the College open access repository, Scholarship, Research, and Creative Work at Bryn Mawr College, which was established in 2012,” reads a statement posted to the college’s website.

Upon its date of publication, each faculty member will provide a digital copy of their final version of each article at no charge to the Office of the Provost. Next, the Office of the Provost will make the article available in a repository that is open to the public at repository.brynmawr.edu.

Bryn Mawr College joins over 40 other colleges and universities, including Harvard, Duke and Princeton, that have passed similar policies since 2008.

Over 500 articles are available in the college’s repository.

Around Main Line publisher is looking for a free meal this Christmas Eve

Around Main Line, an online magazine covering public relations for restaurants on the Main Line, is making online headlines this week after the site's CEO and ePublisher Sarah Lockard sent a letter to restaurants in the region offering a unique opportunity to feed her family on Christmas Eve.

"Good Evening!!!," the email begins. "Every Christmas Eve my family enjoys an amazing night dining out and this year I am offering you the exciting opportunity to be our restaurant that hosts us!"

According to the email, Lockard's host will receive approximately $1,000 in PR from the Around Main Line, which includes two Facebook posts, five Instagram photos, two AML enewsletter ads in January and February 2014, and a listing in the site's dining guide.

In return, Lockard is asking for "Dinner for 5 drinks and food compensated, we will tip according to the value to the server."

"This is a VERY innovative and effective way to promote your restaurant on this very competitive evening and reach tens of thousands of local foodies through AML’s channels," Lockard writes. "Please note this is first come, first serve."

The email was picked up by phillymag.com and later by jimromenesko.com, a blog about media, who wrote about Lockards reaction to "Generous Monday."

The festivities then move inside the atrium at Plaza 16, just off Schauffele Plaza at 16 E. Lancaster Ave., where Santa will hear children’s wish lists and everyone can warm up with cocoa and cookies from Melodies Café.
